About this place
Thick, springy straight noodles coated in a rich soy-based sauce define the signature abura soba at Kolai, drawing a steady stream of regulars. The bowl comes topped with tender sliced chashu, finely shredded white scallions, menma bamboo shoots, nori, and white sesame seeds, providing ample texture against the robust tare. Stirring in table seasonings such as grated garlic, vinegar, and rayu chili oil transforms each bite with a punchy kick, carrying the bowl effortlessly to the finish. Paired with a cold beer after work, or bolstered with a large portion or a side of rice, it makes for a deeply satisfying meal.
Those opting for soup ramen encounter a completely different character. A tonkotsu broth accented with a sharp shoyu kaeshi arrives generously capped with back fat, where a surface sheen of oil locks in the heat right to the bottom of the bowl. Straight thin noodles carry the savory depth of the soup with ease, complemented by substantial slices of chashu and crisp white leeks. When appetite allows, ordering an extra kaedama noodle refill or half-refill is an ideal way to savor the lingering richness of the broth.
